One of my favorites is Free to Learn by Peter Gray, he includes a bit of history of the educational system (which probably isn't news to you), but then he spells out his vision of education which is unstructured free-form learning. It's mostly for parents and educators, but as a parent it's something we're trying to figure out, and I think it's the future of education.
I still consider myself a liberal in the classical sense (free speech, nonviolence, etc), but I don't think the left/right paradigm applies any more. I think there are at least 6 dimensions of political ideology - left/right, in/out, and up/down. And the in/out to me may be the most important - insiders (so-called deep state) vs outsiders. I think very few establishment insiders are truly interested in reform.
